Add Music to a Wordpress Post

If you’re going to have a music blog, you should probably know how to upload and put music onto it, I’d say. If you’ve been using Wordpress for any length of time you probably already know how to add music to a wordpress post, but if you’re just starting it out then hey, this is how to do it.

There are a few options of getting music onto your website. The first and easiest way is to do it right in the Wordpress admin section.

1. Login to your website, go to Posts, and Add New.Add Music to Your Wordpress Post
2. Click on the little music note and a box will pop up. If your song is already hosted on the internet somewhere, you can go to “From URL” at the top and put in the address. If it isn’t, then just click on “Select Files” and choose the song you want to upload.
3. Add the Title, and a description if you want. For the Link URL, click on File URL
4. That’s it, you’re done. Not too bad.

Now, if you want it to be a little bit prettier, there are plugins you can install. Your hosting account comes with an FTP account you can use to put files directly onto your site. Using a plugin can make the music play right in your post, which is definitely cooler and more professional looking. Your customer doesn’t get sent away from your website at all.

1. So download an FTP Client (i.e FlashFXP for Windows or Transmit for Mac) and put in your connection details. (Usually your website, your username, and password) Navigate to public_html and make a folder for your music, then just navigate to your music on your computer on the left and upload the files.

2. Download the Inline Mp3 Player plugin. Upload the entire folder to your ftp just like you did the music files, but put it in the wp_content > plugins folder.

3. Go to your Wordpress admin section again, and go down to Plugins on the left hand side. Find the Inline Mp3 Player in your list, and click on Activate.

4. Make a post, and this time just make a link to the song you uploaded. It will play directly in the post.  Much nicer.

If you have any questions, leave a comment.  If you have questions about the plugin go to the plugin page and there’s a support board.  Have fun.

#1 77Artist :

Hi, I’m trying to follow your instructions re; the mp3 plugin for inserting a playlist. I started running into problems with step #4. After I activated the plugin and then clicked on the music note icon on the page, I got this screen that asked me for the “width, height, to choose config file/playlist, container id/class and play single song.”

I am not a programmer, and have not a clue as to what belongs in each box. I want to insert songs from my computer. I have struggled with this for over a week, and I can’t find anyone who knows what to do at this point. I would be appreciative if you could please help me with this. Thanks!
