Sun Zoo – Can't See The Forest

Sun Zoo - Can't See The Forest From the first track you hear on Can’t See The Forest, Connecticut-born Sun Zoo presents his hybrid style of commercial appeal and underground influence. The beats and hooks are catchy while remaining true to the content, reminiscent of Atmosphere’s early CDs. First thing that I have to say about this album is that Sun Zoo knows how to set a mood. The beats all mesh together nicely, and the content is on point. This isn’t just a bunch of songs thrown onto a CD, this is an album; something hip hop has been lacking lately. Topic-wise you won’t get bored; this definitely isn’t that same old same old. This CD is mostly story songs, but thrown into the mix are personal reflections and just some raw hip hop to keep things fresh.

Production-wise this couldn’t be better. Featuring production from small-time producers is a hit or miss move, but this is a prime example of how that move can be a hit. This disc contains beats from Viktomajarmo, Cire, Oursin, Sarah Clark, and Sun Zoo himself, all of which fit perfectly. The only gripe I have is the song volumes are a little low, but most songs are mixed in the same area so just turn up the volume and enjoy.

Can’t See The Forest is something everybody who loves hip hop can respect, especially those who love it served up raw. The underground style is something that is hard to do right, but Sun Zoo does it right on each and every track. Best of all? It’s free. How he doesn’t charge money for it I’ll never know, as this CD is definitely worth it, but you can pick it up at his website Sun-Zoo.com.
